Question
Who is Jesus in Islam?
Answer
Praise be to Allaah (swt)
Jesus (AS) in Islam has few similarities which are different from the way Christianity view him. He’s regarded as the son of God in the bible, while the teaching of the glorious Quran regards him as a messenger of God.Â
Below are 12 amazing facts about Jesus in Islam.
1. He Was A Prophet Of God
Muslims believe that Jesus (peace be upon him) was a Prophet of God born to Virgin Mary.
Muslims do not regard him as âGodâ or the âsonâ of God, but rather a noble and righteous man chosen by God as a messenger who preached monotheism to the people of Israel or Jews. There is no distinction between him and all the other Prophets of God (i.e. Nuh, Abraham, Moses, Muhammad, etc.)
Jesus said:
“I am indeed a slave of God. He has given me the Book and made me a Prophet, and He has enjoined upon me prayers, and to pay the alms, as long as I live and (He has made me) kind to my mother, and He has not made me insolent, unblessed. And may Peace be upon me the day I was born, and the Day I die, and on the Day I shall be raised to life.”
(Quran 19:30-33)
2. His Name Is Always Respected
Muslims say âpeace be upon himâ after mentioning the name of Jesus as a sign of love and respect.
3. Believing In Him Is A Condition To Being Muslim
One cannot be Muslim unless he believes in Jesus (peace be upon him) as a Messenger of God. This is one of the pillars of faith.
4. He Had A Miraculous Birth

5. He Performed Miracles and Spoke in the Cradle
The Quran also highlights on the miracles he had performed under Allahâs permission such as curing the blind, healing the lepers, and bringing the dead back to life.
The Quran also shedâs light of another miracle of Jesus (AS) â his ability to speak as an infant in the cradle.Â
“He shall speak to people while still in the cradle, and in manhood, and he shall be from the righteous.”Â
(Quran 3:46)
6. His Name Was Mentioned In The Quran 25 Times
Jesus (peace be upon him) was mentioned by name 25 times in the Quran, which makes him one of the most mentioned Prophets in the Quran.
7. A Chapter Was Dedicated To His Mother & whole Family
A whole chapter was named after the mother of Jesus â Maryam (Mary) peace be upon her and she was mentioned by name 34 times in the Quran and is known as one of the greatest women of all time.
Moreover, another Chapter was dedicated to the Family of Imran (AS). Imran was the grandfather of Jesus (AS) and the father of Maryam (AS). The Quran highlights on the virtues of this righteous family with such beauty and excellence.
8. The Last Supper
A similar incident to âThe Last Supperâ was also described in the Quran.âWhen the disciples said: O Jesus, son of Mary! Is your Lord able to send down for us a table spread with food from heaven? He said: Observe your duty to God, if you are true believers.
They said: We desire to eat of it and our hearts be at rest, and that We may know that you have spoken truth to us, and that We may be witnesses thereof. Jesus, son of Mary, said: Jesus, son of Mary, prayed, âO Allaah, our Lord! Send us from heaven a table spread with food as a feast for usâthe first and last of usâand as a sign from You. Provide for us! You are indeed the Best Provider.âÂ
(Quran 5:112-114)
9. Jesus (AS) Was Not Crucified
The Quran rejects the idea that Jesus (AS) was crucified and killed, but rather God had saved him.
And for their saying (in boast), “Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the messenger of Allaah .” And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And they did not kill him, for certain.Â
(Quran 4:157)
10. Jesus (AS) Will Reject All Claims Of Divinity Attributed To Him
Allaah asks Jesus on Judgment Day: âOh Jesus, son of Mary, did you say to people to ‘Worship me and my mother as two gods besides Allaah?’ He will reply âExalted are You! It was not for me to say that which I have not right.âÂ
(Quran 5:116)
11.The Second Coming Of Christ Will Take Place
After Allaah had saved Jesus (AS) from being crucified, he was then raised up to the heavens and will be returning back to Earth during the end of times to defeat the “the false Messiah” known as the Antichrist.
12.The Era of Jesus (AS) Will Bring Blessings
On the arrival of Jesus (AS), he will assume the role of a judge, meaning that he will rule according to the Divine Law (Shariah), he will break the crosses, which Christians have venerated and taken to signify crucifixion, he will kill the pigs, since their consumption has been made unlawful for Christians and he will no longer accept taxes paid by non-Muslims in an Islamic state.
However, with his arrival will come the abundance of wealth, goodness and blessings because there will no longer be disbelief or corruption on the Earth.
