Why Uthman ibn Affan did not burry his wife Umm Kulthum the Daughter of the Prophet.

Why Uthman ibn Affan did not burry his wife Umm Kulthum the Daughter of the Prophet.

Anti-Islamic Claim:

Enemies of Islam quoted this Hadith claiming that while the Prophet in a funeral He asked if anyone of the people did not have sexual relation last night with his wife- So He can help in the burrial of the dead woman in the grave. Enemies of Islam went so low to claim that the Prophet meant to instruct one of his companions who had no sexal relation with his wife to come forward to have sex with the dead woman.

(32)Chapter: The statement of the Prophet ﷺ : “The deceased is punished because of the weeping (with wailing) of some of his relatives, if wailing was the custom of that dead person.”

Narrated Anas bin Malik:

We were (in the funeral procession) of one of the daughters of the Prophet (ﷺ) and he was sitting by the side of the grave. I saw his eyes shedding tears. He said, “Is there anyone among you who did not have sexual relations with his wife last night?” Abu Talha replied in the affirmative. And so the Prophet told him to get down in the grave. And so he got down in her grave.

Question:

Can a Junub follow the funeral procession and offer a Funeral Prayer?

Is it permissible for a Junub (person in a state of post-sexual ritual impurity) to follow the funeral procession and offer the Funeral Prayer after performing Tayammum (dry ablution with clean earth)?

Please note that if he goes to have Ghusl (full ritual bath), he may miss the Funeral Prayer with the congregation? Also, what is the ruling on a Junub who actually followed a funeral and offered the Funeral Prayer without taking Ghusl and just performed Tayammum?

Answer:

Taharah (ritual purification) is a condition for the validity of Funeral Prayer. It is not valid to (Part No. 4; Page No. 177) perform Tayammum as long as water is available and one is able to use it. If it is not possible to offer the Funeral Prayer with the congregation, one can offer the Funeral Prayer at the graveside of the deceased person during a period not more than a month after burial.

As for following the funeral procession, a Muslim can do so even if he is Junub; there is nothing wrong with this.As for the fact that you already offered the Funeral Prayer through performing Tayammum although water was available, you have to ask Allah’s Forgiveness for doing so.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
