What is the Muslim View of Jesus?

Before delving into the theological side of things and quote both the Bible and the Qurโ€™an, we need to familiarize ourselves with some terminology.

Definition of Islam

Islam is a word with multiple connotations. It is derived from an Arabic stem that carries the meanings of peace and submission (to Allah the Exalted and Almighty).

All Abrahamic religions were sent down to discipline mankind and prepare them spiritually, physically, and intellectually in the way that is best for the fulfilment of the mission they are created for. Allahโ€™s Messages are meant to build up the human being fit for establishing civilization and creating prosperity in the world.

For this end, Allah commands us to do what is beneficial to us and forbids all that cause harm to us.

Abrahamic religions were sent down to liberate human minds and render them enlightened and mature through the divine light. Religion is not meant to contrast with reason and truth. Rather, it is meant to be in harmony with reason and help develop and illuminate it.

If the worldโ€™s nations look truly forward to achieving world peace, the only way left for them is to embrace the Message of Allah that is based on establishing peace between man and Allah, and man and man.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said in his teachings: โ€œAllah shows Mercy to those who are merciful to others. Show mercy to those on earth and He up in heaven will show Mercy to you.โ€

[Reported by Abu-Dawud (4943) and At-Tirmidhi (1924) on the authority of `Abdullah ibn `Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) and classified by At-Tirmidhi as Hasan Sahih. [1]

Moreover, the Glorious Qurโ€™an describes our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) saying: โ€œWe have not sent you but as a mercy to the worlds.โ€

Qurโ€™an [Surah Al Anbyaโ€™: 107]

Allah (Glory is to Him) says in the Glorious Qurโ€™an: โ€œAllah invites to the abode of peaceโ€ฆโ€

Qurโ€™an [Surah Yunus: 25].

Islam establishes the greeting of peace for its adherents as an invocation of peace and mercy to be exchanged whenever they meet.

In fact, Islam was not revealed to abrogate the previous Messages of Allah, but rather to renew and perfect them. Therefore, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: โ€œMy similitude in comparison with the other Prophets before me is that of a man who has built a house nicely and beautifully, except for a place of one brick in a corner.

The people go round about it and wonder at its beauty but say: โ€œWould that this brick be put in its place!โ€ So, I am the last (final) of the Prophets.โ€

[Reported by Al-Bukhari (3342) and Muslim 22-(2286) on the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him)].

Allah (Glory is to Him) says in the Glorious Qurโ€™an: โ€œSay: We believe in Allah and (in) that which had been revealed to us, and (in) that which was revealed to Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the tribes, and (in) that which was given to Musa and Isa, and (in) that which was given to the prophets from their Lord, we do not make any distinction between any of them, and to Him do we submit.โ€ [Surat Al-Baqarah: 136].

In this regard, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) also said: โ€œI have the best claim to โ€˜Isa, son of Mariam, among the whole of mankind in this worldly life and the next life. Prophets are brothers in faith, having different mothers. Their religion is one, but their mothers are different.โ€

[Reported by Bukhari and Muslim on the authority of Abu Hurayrah (Sahih Bukhari (3259) and Sahih Muslim 143-(2365))].

Thus, Jesus (peace be upon him) was not sent to abolish the Message of Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) nor was Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) sent to strip Jesus of prophethood. Rather, each Prophet was sent to confirm the Message of his predecessor and pave the way for his successor.

The Glorious Qurโ€™an is the aggregate source that gathers the essence and wisdom of all the previous divine Messages. It calls for believing in all the Prophets; they have all been taught and sent by the One God: Allah, to Whom all Majesty belongs.

[1] A sahih (literally: sound or authentic) hadith is one which has a continuous chain comprised of transmitters of trustworthy memory and integrity from similar authorities, and which is found to be free from any irregularities (i.e., in the text) or defects (i.e., in the chain of transmitters).

A Hasan (literally: good) hadith is one that does not contain a disparaged transmitter in its chain, and which is reported through more than one route of narration, with a chain containing truthful and reliable transmitters, but who are a degree less in their preservation/memory of hadith in comparison to the reporters of sahih hadith.

Now here are 13-thirteen valid reasons to why and how Muslims are like Prophet Jesus = Isa peace be upon him โ€˜PBUHโ€™ and that Muslims are the true followers of Prophet Jesus=Isa much more than current Christians.

1. Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) taught that there is only One God and Only God should be worshipped as taught in Deuteronomy 6:4, Mark 12:29. Muslims also believe this as taught in the Qur’an verse 4:171.

2. Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) didn’t eat pork as taught in Leviticus 11:7, and neither do Muslims as taught in the Qur’an verse 6:145.

3. Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) greeted with the words “as salaamu alaikum” (Peace be with you) in John 20:21. Muslims also greet each other this way.

4. Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) always said “God Willing” (inshallah), Muslims say this too before doing anything as taught in the Qur’an verses 18:23-24.

5. Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) washed his face, hands, and feet before praying=Ablution and that is exactly what are doing.

6. Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) and other prophets of the Bible prayed with their head to the ground (see Matthew 26:39). Muslims do too, as taught in the Qur’an verse 3:43.

7. Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) had a beard and wore a thobe=lose dress like Muslims. It is one of Prophet Muhammedโ€™s tradition= Sunnah for Muslim men to do the same.

8. Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) followed the law and believed in all the prophets, (see Matthew 5:17). Muslims do too, as taught in the Qur’an verses 3:84, and 2:285.

9. Prophet Jesus’ mother Maryam (peace be upon her/him) dressed modestly by fully covering her body and wearing a headscarf (hijab) as found in 1 Timothy 2:9, Genesis 24:64-65, and Corinthians 11:6. Muslim women modestly dress the same as taught in the Qur’an verse 33:59.

10. Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) and other prophets of the Bible fasted up to 40 days (see Exodus 34:28, Daniel 10:2-6. 1Kings 19:8, and Matthew 4:1- Muslims do so also during the month of Ramadan. Muslims are required to fast the full obligatory 30 days (see Qur’an 2:183), and others take it a step further by fasting an additional 6 days to increase their rewards.

11. Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) taught to say, “Peace to this house” when entering it (see Luke 10:5), and to also greet the people in the house with “peace be unto you”.

Muslims do exactly what Jesus did and taught. When we enter our homes and the homes of others we say “Bismillah” and also greet with “as salaamu alaikum” (peace be upon you) as taught in the Qur’an verse 24:61.

12. Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) was circumcised. Circumcision is 1 of the 5 natural dispositions= fitrah in Islam, so Muslim men are required to be circumcised. According to the Bible in Luke 2:21, Jesus was eight days old when he was circumcised.

In the Torah, Allah/God stated to the Prophet Abraham (pbuh) that it is an “Everlasting covenant” (see Genesis 17:13).

In the Qur’an verse 16:123 Muslims are required to follow the religion of Abraham. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “The Prophet Abraham circumcised himself when he was eighty years old.” (See Sahih hadith Bukhari, Muslim, and Ahmad).

13. Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) spoke Aramaic and called God “Elah”, which is pronounced the same as “Allah”. Aramaic is an ancient, Biblical language. It is one of the Semitic languages that also include Hebrew, Arabic, Ethiopic and the ancient Assyrian and Babylonian language of Akkadian.

The Aramaic “Elah” and the Arabic “Allah” are the same. The Aramaic “Elah” is derived from the Arabic “Allah”, and it means “GOD”. “Allah” in Arabic also means “GOD”, the Supreme GOD Almighty.

You can easily see the similarity in their pronunciation, so this concludes that the God of Jesus is also the God of the Muslims, of all mankind, and all that exist. please Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) mentioned in the bible.

Isaiah 29:12, Deuteronomy 18:18, John 1: 19-25, Habakkuk 3:3, John 14:26, John 16:7, Deuteronomy 33:2

Jesus was not Christian and was Muslim, to understand this, you need to know

Islam is The total submission to the will and commands of Allah through obeying him and freeing oneself from taking idols such as statues representing Jesus, Mary, and a holy spirit. Such statues are idols and a form of paganism. Seeking forgiveness, help, and blessings directly from these statues or idols is a major sin in Islam and would make a Muslim a non-Muslim.

In Islam, we do not have or make any images of God, or any Prophets, it is completely prohibited to do that. Even it is well-known worldwide that Muslims get very upset when anyone try to draw an image of Prophet Muhammed or anyone Prophet rather trying to draw an image of God, is absolutely prohibited.

* Surrender to God Allah by confessing his strict monotheism and ascribing no divinity to anyone other than Allah (He has no helpers in the universe)

Now ask yourself, isnโ€™t that what Prophet Jesus preached?

John 5:30

I seek not my will but the will of father (God) who sent me…

Psalm 40:8

I delight to do Your will, O my God; Your Law is within my heart.”

Psalm 143:10

Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God; Let Your good Spirit lead me on level ground.

John 5:30

“I can do nothing on My own initiative As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.

Muslims say Inshaโ€™Allah=God willing.

Bible says it too

James 4:15

Instead, you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that.”

Jesus is a Muslim

1. Jesus (peace be upon Him) taught that there is only One God and Only God should be worshipped as taught in

14. Prophet Jesus the Muslim in your bible, 5/ Jesus said give charity, (Mk 10:21)

It’s one of the pillars of Islam, Muslims are commanded to give Zakat (obligatory charity to the poor and needy)!

Now tell me who is the real follower of Prophet Jesus. Obviously, Muslims. Now I believe am a

a true follower of Jesusย peace be upon Him)

All prophets were Muslim.

In Quran

Abraham is Muslim

Not Jew

Not Christian

Read

Ibrahim (Abraham) was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was a true Muslim Hanifa (Islamic Monotheism โ€“ to worship none but Allah Alone) and he was not of Al-Mushrikun (the disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah, idolaters, polytheists, pagans, etc.)โ€ [The Noble Quran 3:67]

Joseph submitted his will to the will of Allah too (Aslama  or was Muslim)

Joseph said: โ€œMy Lord! You have indeed bestowed on me of the sovereignty and taught me something of the interpretation of dreams โ€“ the (Only) Creator of the heavens and the earth! You are my Wali (Protector, Helper, Supporter, Guardian, God, Lord) in this world and in the Hereafter. Cause me to die as a Muslim (the one submitting to Your Will) and join me with the righteous.โ€ [The Noble Quran 12:101]

Prophet Jacob and his sons were MUSLIMS

โ€œOr were you witnesses when death approached Yaโ€™qub (Jacob)? When he said unto his sons, โ€œWhat will you worship after me?โ€ They said, โ€œWe shall worship your Ilah (God โ€“ Allah), the Ilah (God) of your fathers, Ibrahim (Abraham), Ismaโ€™il (Ishmael), Ishaq (Isaac), One Ilah (God), and to Him we submit (in Islam, Muslims).โ€ [The Noble Quran 2:133]

โ€œThen when โ€˜Isa (Jesus) came to know of their disbelief, he said: โ€œWho will be my helpers in Allahโ€™s Cause?โ€ Al-Hawariun (the disciples) said: โ€œWe are the helpers of Allah; we believe in Allah and bear witness that we are Muslims (i.e. we submit to Allah).โ€ [The Noble Quran 3:52]

โ€œAnd when I (Allah) revealed to Al-Hawarieen (the disciples)(of โ€˜Isa (Jesus)) to believe in Me and My Messenger, they said: โ€œWe believe. And bear witness that we are Muslims.โ€ [The Noble Quran 5:111].

Truly, the religion with Allah (God) is Islam. Those who were given the Scripture (Jews and Christians) did not differ except, out of mutual jealousy after knowledge had come to them. And whoever disbelieves in the Ayat (proofs, evidence, verses, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allah, then surely, Allah is Swift in calling to account.โ€ [The Noble Quran 3:19]

It’s the fundamental dawah of all prophets

16:36) And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger, [saying], โ€œWorship Allah and avoid Taghut.โ€ And among them were those whom Allah guided, and among them were those upon whom error was [deservedly] decreed. So proceed through the earth and observe how was the end of the deniers.

1. Noah

7:59) We had certainly sent Noah to his people, and he said, โ€œO my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him. Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a tremendous Day.

2. Abraham

29:16) And [We sent] Abraham, when he said to his people, โ€œWorship Allah and fear Him. That is best for you, if you should know.

3. Hud of Aad tribe

7:65) And to the โ€˜Aad [We sent] their brother Hud. He said, โ€œO my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him. Then will

you not fear Him?โ€

4. Prophet Salih

Of

Thamud

And to the people of the Thamood, (We sent) their brother Saleh.

He said: โ€œO my people, worship only God.

There is no one for you worthy of

worship except He.

5. Shuaib

To the Madyan people We sent Shu’aib, one of their own brethren: he said: “O my people! worship Allah; Ye have

no other god but Him.

6. Jesus

the Messiah has said, โ€œO Children of Israel, worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord.โ€ Indeed, he who associates others with Allah โ€“ Allah has forbidden him Paradise, and his refuge is the Fire. And there are not for the wrongdoers any helpers.

7. Jacob

2:133) Or were you witnesses when death approached Jacob, when he said to his sons, โ€œWhat will you worship after me?โ€ They said, โ€œWe will worship your God and the God of your fathers, Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac โ€“ one God. And we are Muslims [in submission] to Him.โ€

8. Joseph

12:40) You worship not besides Him except [mere] names you have named them, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. Legislation is not but for Allah. He has commanded that you worship not except Him. That is the correct religion, but most people do not know.

9. Prophet Muhammad

Prophet Muhammad said

– Say: O you that reject Faith!

– I worship not that which you worship,

– Nor will you worship that which I worship.

– Nor will I serve those whom you have worshipped;

– Nor will you serve that which I worship.

– You have your way, and I have mine.

He also said

“You are going to a nation from the people of the Scripture, so let the first thing to which you will invite them, be the Tauhid of Allah.”

Sahih al-Bukhari 7372
