Small Deeds That May Save You From The Hell Fire

Here are some insights that could help you erase your minor sins and earn Allah’s mercy. While a Muslim is expected to save himself from major sins, he is also encouraged to love each other just for the sake of Allah. So if someone does a good deed even equal to the grain of sand, if Allah wills, Allah will save the person from The Hell Fire.

As you read this article you will realize what may seem insignificant good deeds in your opinion is considered very high in the eyes of Allah.

#1 : Going out of the way to help your mother

You have returned home after a long day of work and you are tired. You have carried groceries required at home. Suddenly your mother asks, “Have you brought milk?” You then smile and tell her, “Give me a minute I will go and get you some!” Maybe the supplication she would do for you could be the one to save you from the fire….!!

That’s because The Prophet (pbuh) replied to a man who asked the following,

O Messenger of Allah! Who from amongst mankind warrants the best companionship from me?” The Prophet (pbuh) said, “Your mother.” The man asked, “Then who?” He (pbuh) replied, “Your mother.” The man then asked “Then who?” The Prophet (pbuh) replied again, “Your mother.” The man asked, “Then who?” The Prophet (pbuh) replied, “Then your father.” ~ Bukhari 5971 | Muslim 7/2

#2 : Helping your father when he needs your support

Your dad says, “Come and take me to the doctor, I have an appointment.” You reply instantly, “Alright” even though you had some prior engagement. He says to you “May Allah bless you.” This could save you from the fire….!!

That’s because The Quran says,

…be dutiful to your parents. If one or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of disrespect, nor shout at them. (Always) Speak gently to them. ~ Quran 17:23

#3 : Prolonging Sajdah when required

You are praying, and your baby is playing next to you, and all of a sudden she jumps on your back while you are in Sajdah! Don’t be upset. Be patient, and prolong your Sajdah for that. This could save you from the fire….!!

That’s because The Prophet (pbuh) once said,

The closest that a person can be to his Lord… is when he is prostrating, so increasing in supplication then. ~ Nasai 12/109

#4 : Quenching someone’s thirst proactively

You see a laborer working under the sun soaked in sweat. You quench his thirst by offering glass of cold water. This could save you from the fire….!!

That’s because The Prophet (pbuh) said,

He who does not show mercy to the young and show esteem for elders is not one of us. ~ Bukhari 360

#5 : Feeding animals out of mercy

You place grains of rice where birds can eat. This could save you from the fire….!!

That’s because The Prophet (pbuh) said,

O Allah’s Messenger! Is there a reward for us in serving animals?” He (pbuh) replied, “Yes, there is a reward for serving any animate (birds, animals etc.).” ~ Bukhari 42/11

The Prophet (pbuh) also said,

A woman was tortured and was put in Hell because of a cat which she had kept locked, till it died of hunger.” The Prophet (pbuh) further said, “Allah said (to the woman), ‘You neither fed it nor watered when you locked it up, nor did you set it free to eat the creatures of the earth.’” ~ Bukhari 42/13

#6 : Removing obstacles from the road out of concern 

You find a thorn on the road along your way and you remove it. This could save you from the fire….!!

That’s because The Prophet (pbuh) said,

A man came across a thorn on the road and said, “I will remove this thorn so that it does not harm a Muslim man.” For that reason he was forgiven (by Allah). ~ Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 11/9

#7 : Not fighting when provoked

A person provokes you and you say “May Allah forgive you”. This could save you from the fire….!!

And when the ignorant speak with them they say peace. ~ Quran 25:63

You are reading a verse from the Quran and a tear falls from your eye. This could save you from the fire….!!

That’s because The Prophet (pbuh) said,

A person who remembers Allah in sclusion and his eyes get flooded with tears will be in the shade of Allah on the day of resurrection. ~ Bukhari 1423

#9 : Correcting others politely when required

You pass by and find youngsters disobeying Allah, you stop to give them Dawah and counsel them. This could save you from the fire….!!

That’s because The Prophet (pbuh) said,

If one of you sees something wrong, he should change it with his hand. If he cannot, then he should speak out against it. If he cannot even do that, he should at least detest it in his heart. This being the weakest form of faith. ~ Abu Dawud 38/4326

#10 : Saving yourself from ill-thoughts when important

You see an under-dressed woman revealing her beauty. You lower your gaze and make Istighfar. This could save you from the fire….!!

Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and preserve their chastity… ~ Quran 24:30

#11 : Gulping your anger when it matters most

Someone annoys you and you want to punch him then you remember Allah’s words, “Those who restrain anger and pardon people…” you control your anger and forgive. This could save you from the fire….!!

That’s because The Quran says,

Those who restrain anger and pardon people; verily Allah loves the doers of good. ~ Quran 3:134

#12 : Keeping sins of others private

You get to know of someone’s shameful act and you don’t spread that information but keep it to yourself. This could save you from the fire….!!

That’s because The Prophet (pbuh) said,

Allah will cover-up, on the day of resurrection, the faults of the one who covers up the fault of others in this world. ~ Muslim 45/93

#13 : Saving a life no matter how small

If you save an ant from drowning in water. Then this act won’t go in vain in front of Allah….!!

That’s because The Prophet (pbuh) said,

Allah will not be merciful to those who are not merciful to mankind. ~ Bukhari 7376

#14 : Caring for your neighbor when it is required the most

Your non-Muslim neighbor is sick. You visit him and spend time with him. This could save you from the fire….!!

That’s because The Prophet (pbuh) said,

To pay a visit to the sick; to follow funeral processions; to say, “May Allah be merciful to you” to a sneezer if he says “Praise be to Allah”; to return greetings, to accept invitations; to help others to fulfil their oaths and to help the oppressed ones. ~ Bukhari 77/80

#15 : Selling goods without deceiving the buyer

You demonstrate a commodity to a purchaser who did not notice the defect in the product. However you show him the defect before agreeing on a price and making a sale. This could save you from the fire….!!

That’s because The Prophet (pbuh) said,

It is not lawful for a Muslim to sell such a commodity that has a defect, except that the defect is shown to the buyer. ~ Ibn Majah 3/12/2246

Thus we don’t know which small deeds which we ignore could be the ones to speak for us on the day of judgement! Therefore don’t look down upon any good deed no matter how small it is. That could be the reason for you to enter Paradise.
