An interesting article published six months ago in WSJ titled ‘Science Increasingly Makes the Case for God‘ makes two interesting statements. We will co-relate these with verses from The Quran. But as a side note it is important to recall that as science has matured our scientists have discovered their ignorance and stated something similar to what Peter Schenkel rightly points out in this article. He states, “In light of new findings and insights, it seems appropriate to put excessive euphoria to rest … We should quietly admit that the early estimates … may no longer be tenable.”
Here’s the first statement,
Astrophysicists now know that the values of the four fundamental forces—gravity, the electromagnetic force, and the “strong” and “weak” nuclear forces—were determined less than one millionth of a second after the big bang.
With “… determined less than one millionth of a second after the big bang”, consider the following verse from The Holy Quran that states ‘”Be!” and it is’:
The Originator of the heavens and the earth. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, “Be” and it is. ~ Quran 2:117
This – “Be” and it is – is mentioned in several places in The Quran which means when Allah decides to create something he just has to say “Be” and that object comes into existence exactly as Allah willed it. One may ask, if Allah can create anything in a flick then why did He take 6 days to create the universe. The answer to this is summarised here.
Here’s another statement,
Alter any one value and the universe could not exist. For instance, if the ratio between the nuclear strong force and the electromagnetic force had been off by the tiniest fraction of the tiniest fraction—by even one part in 100,000,000,000,000,000—then no stars could have ever formed at all. Feel free to gulp.”
With “if the ratio … had been off by tiniest fraction … then no stars could have ever formed…”, co-relate this statement with the following verse from The Holy Quran that states everything is created with precise measurements.
… and (He) has created each thing and determined it with (precise) measurements. ~ Quran 25:2
The Quran further challenges mankind, those who do not want to believe:
We will show them Our Signs in the universe, and in their own selves, until it becomes clear to them that this (The Quran) is the truth. ~ Quran 41:53
An Interesting Conversation a Millennium Ago
“Is there any proof that God exists?” was asked, by an atheist, of Imam Abu Hanifa and he replied, “Forget it! At the moment, I am busy thinking about this ship.
People tell me there is a big ship, it contains different goods on board. There is no one to steer it, no one maintaining it. Yet, this ship keeps going back and forth; it even traverses big waves on the oceans; it stops at the locations that it is supposed to stop at; it continues in the direction that it is supposed to head. This ship has no captain and no one planning its trips.”
The atheist who posed the question interrupted and exclaimed, “What kind of strange and silly thought is this? How can any intelligent person think that something like this can occur?”
Imam Abu Hanifa said, “I feel sorry about your state! You cannot imagine one ship running without someone looking after its affairs. Yet you think that for this whole world, which runs exactly and precisely, there is no one who looks after it, and no one owns it.”
Hearing the reply, the atheist was left speechless but he found out more about Haqq (The Truth) and proclaimed Islam.

Arrogance is not only a sign of insecurity, but also a sign of immaturity. Mature and fully realised persons can get their points across, even emphatically without demeaning or intimidating others.
